first_img1 Ander Herrera Manchester United have rubbished reports linking midfielder Ander Herrera with a move back to La Liga, according to the Daily Mail. The Red Devils have received no enquiries for the Spaniard, who is allegedly being monitored by both Barcelona and Valencia. The Catalans have long admired Herrera since his Athletic Bilbao days and have touted him as a future replacement for Xavi – who left Barcelona for Qatar in the summer. The 26-year-old has seen competition for places in the United midfield increase over the summer after the acquisitions of Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger. The £28.8m midfielder has flitted in and out of the starting line up so far this campaign, but he remains happy at Old Trafford and has no plans on leaving.Red Devils manager Louis van Gaal also views Herrera as a key component in his plans, particularly after an impressive individual display during United’s emphatic Champions League qualifying victory at Club Brugge.last_img read more

first_imgAlex McLeish joined the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast to look ahead to Tuesday night’s League Cup showdown between near neighbours Aston Villa and Birmingham.Villa have endured a disappointing start to the season, winning just one of their opening six Premier League games, while visitors Birmingham go into the match in good form having lost just once in the Championship this term.McLeish, who has managed both clubs, believes the pressure is all on Tim Sherwood’s side and says he would not be surprised to see the Blues pull off a famous derby victory over their top-flight rivals at Villa Park. The Scot said: “Tim has to get the Aston Villa show back on track. When he came in, he was a breath of fresh air and it is absolutely vital he wins this one tonight.“But Gary Rowett looks relaxed. He has put a bit of pressure on Villa saying they are fourth from bottom in the Premier League. All these little things niggle and get under your skin and I’m sure the Blues will put up a very good fight. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a shock.”last_img read more

The event, to be held at Boardwalk Cafe in Ports O’ Call Village, will feature a wine-tasting, silent auction and music by the Alistair Tober Jazz Quartet, as well as Lainie Nelson with Andy Howe. The wine will be provided by PRP Wines, and local restaurants will be offering samples of their food. Grimes and conductor Steven Allen Fox will be on hand to greet guests. “There will be good music, good wine and hopefully some good friends,” Grimes said. She and the other planners decided to call the event a “friend-raiser” because they thought it was more fitting. “We recognize that we exist for our audience, and the more friends of the orchestra we have, the bigger the audience is and more people come to enjoy the music,” Grimes said. If the event is successful, the orchestra may continue it as the new season kickoff. “I think there’s a lot of music lovers,” Grimes said, “and it’s a relaxing afternoon.” The first GSPO concert of the season will be “Halloween Fright Night 5,” on Oct. 27 at the Warner Grand Theatre.
