Jack O’Malley of Lake Ann recently showcased a customized piece of artwork made by local Empire artist Curtis Warnes.“Shortly after my election, I asked Curtis Warnes of Steel Appeal to craft a logo for my district,” Rep. O’Malley said. “Mr. Warnes took the job and used his talents to create the crest hanging in my office today.”The artwork is a steel crest depicting the four counties in the “Fighting 101st,” a term of affection used by Rep. O’Malley to describe the 101st House District.“When I first saw the finished product in Curtis’ workshop, I was totally blown away. It was gorgeous,” Rep. O’Malley commented.On Friday, Mr. Warnes visited Lansing to see his work hanging in Rep. O’Malley’s office. “It turned out beautiful,” Mr. Warnes said.“This crest has become a focal point for visitors to the office,” Rep. O’Malley noted. “I think it captures the beauty of the district in a Northern Michigan way, and I am thrilled to have it here.”The artwork was requested by Rep. O’Malley personally and was not commissioned at taxpayers’ expense.###last_img
